Melinda and Graduation Pictures

The election season came and passed rather quickly. I, personally made up my mind on who I'd vote for quite late in the game so I gave up trying to convince people of my choice rather quickly as well. For the first time since 2010, I wasn't actively trying to convince people of my pick for president. It was nice to take the back seat and just watch the events unfold before me while getting as much information to inform my choice.

As an audience member to this election season, I saw how dirty things can get online. With Tiktok and YouTube being used at full blast these days, there was more noise than ever on Facebook. I saw how the supporters of BBM and Leni interacted online. I saw a bunch of fact checkers doing their fact checking thing. I saw people put forth any poll that would suggest their candidate was in the lead when they were not. It was nice being in the back seat for once.

This post, however, is based on something I notice specifically coming from the Pink camp. While it's true that the Vice President has been at the receiving end of a LOOOOOT of unfair attacks from the supporters of other candidates, what I find troubling is how her supporters react to such attacks.

Let's look at one example - Melinda. Last week, I didn't know Melinda. No one knew Melinda. Somehow, she became a popular name because of this particular comment on a post the Vice President took during her daughter's graduation.

The comment is distasteful at best. It's the type of comment that haters simply put out there without much thought. It's the type of comment you'd put on a celebrity's social media page when you hate watch them. I actually think Melinda meant something different but typed, "picturan" instead but I'm not here to psycho-analyze her.

Within a few hours of this offhand comment being put up, the Kakampinks were already all over Melinda's Facebook page. Screenshots of her posting pictures online and people commenting something similar on her pictures.

So much time, effort and emotions were spent making fun of this lady who made an offhand distasteful comment on the VP's page. Melinda wasn't the first and just this morning I saw another individual who made a distasteful comment at the VP make the rounds on social media. All of these are non-sense. Really, all of it is non-sense - especially the over  reacting part.

As a kid, my sisters and cousins would tease me about being too thin. That's what older family members do, basically. I asked my dad what I should do and he gave me really good advice. Bullies like making fun of other people. They love it more when they react negatively like over reacting or crying or getting mad. Many kakampinks need to learn this lesson. Quite frankly, many friends of mine who are kakampinks need to learn this lesson.

Bullies will be bullies and make fun of you for whatever reason. They stop doing it when it stops being fun and it stops being fun when they don't get attention for it. In writing this piece, I was reminded of a song that matches the over-all idea I'm trying to put forth. Coz, the haters are going to hate, hate, hate. You just need to shake it off, shake it off.

My IO Experience

While waiting for our flight to Japan, I saw on Threads thing trend where people would post their experiences with the immigration officers ...
